Australian café chain, The Coffee Club, is set to make an entry into Kenya’s market in partnership with local oil marketer Luqman Petroleum starting with an outlet at the petroleum dealer’s branch in Lavington early next year.
The partnership that will see an investment of Sh646 million ($5 million) seeks to capitalise on Kenya’s rapidly growing café culture and the rising demand for quality food and beverage experiences.
The Coffee Club’s menu includes burgers, drinks and rolls.
“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Luqman Petroleum as we bring The Coffee Club to East Africa. This marks a significant milestone in The Coffee Club’s expansion journey, and we couldn’t envision a better partner to lead the way in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda,” The Coffee Club chief executive Charl Badenhorst said.
Other oil marketers including TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya have similar deals with fast food chains, restaurants and pharmacies at their outlets to offer more services to motorists and earn rental income.
The company plans to expand further into other markets in East, West, and Central Africa. The Coffee Club, founded in Brisbane, has an international footprint extending to New Zealand, Thailand, and the Middle East.
“We’re thrilled to introduce a fresh take on café culture to East Africa, inspired by the region’s vibrant energy and sense of community. This partnership marks a strategic step in redefining the coffee experience here in Nairobi and beyond. By focusing on quality, local ingredients, and a welcoming environment, we’re not just serving coffee, we’re building a space for connection,” Abdullahi Mohamed, Managing Director of Luqman Petroleum said.
With the East African region’s growing middle class, increased urbanisation, and a youthful demographic, international brands see huge potential for growth.
Additionally, Nairobi’s status as a regional hub for multinationals makes it an attractive destination for global players seeking new opportunities. With rising disposable incomes and a demand for premium dining experiences, the café scene in Kenya is poised for intense competition and innovation.
